Awake: 6:42am Temp 68 sleep 6+18 cloudy overnight @ Nicktown, PA.
Drive to 8:00 am Mass; afterward cousin Flossy gives us another bag of his homegrown veggies. Then we drive to Indiana, PA & grocery shop @ Wal-Mart & Martin’s. On Philadelphia Street in town, Kathy buys a 29 tea sampler for the theme basket.
Then we visit the Foote family; Kevin & Matthew are just leaving to visit Loews where on Saturday, the young kids make some sort of a practical wooden structure that they can bring back home. Kevin quickly gives me a (3) way wall switch to finish wiring during his absence.
Meanwhile, Melissa puts Andrew down for his late morning nap upstairs & then returns to the kitchen to start making some dinner. Lucky Kathy gets to hold Nathaniel for awhile & then it’s my turn. He looks so peaceful in my arms as I talk & hum a little off key music. Then I introduced myself as: “I’m your ‘G’ Daddy” & I could have sworn there was a slight smile come over his face when he heard that. He nearly fell asleep but then the fussing began & his mother figured he was ready for another meal.
When Matthew & Kevin return, they bring in their latest project: a small double plant holder with handle. Matthew really enjoys doing this on Saturdays with his dad.
Kathy discovers clean towels in the washing machine and hangs them on the line outside to dry. Matthew & Kathy work with Melissa in the kitchen, making a couple meals to help her get thru the week. Then Matthew is after grandma to play and outside they go.
After some needed assistance on my wiring project, Kevin begins his job of making the dinner. Before long, we are called to join them for: grilled hamburgers with all the trimmings, potato chunks, & a salad. Kevin makes a great hamburger.
Next we all take a walk around the neighborhood block again with Matthew riding his tricycle & Andrew exploring creatures along the sidewalk. This time however, Matthew was a little tired & pedaled slowly; Andrew, imitating his brother, insisted on being carried quite a lot & dragged behind when walking.
We leave @ 3:15 & head for Nicktown. En route, Ken calls to find out if he can pick up his tractor. Kathy takes the call & relays my message that the keys are in the ignition. I was hoping to get there in time to see him but, alas, he was fast.
We barely have time to cut each other’s hair & take showers before walking to church to attend the 6:00pm vigil Mass, but we did & we looked good doing it.
Dinner: a small but mighty BLT sandwich with a side of Flossy’s corn on the cob.
After dinner, Kathy par-boils 12 ears of corn, quickly cools them, cuts the kernels off the cob, & bags the corn kernels for freezing.
Late evening movie: “A Farewell to Arms” with Helen Hayes, Gary Cooper, Adolphe Menjou, Mary Philips, Jack LaRue, etc. A lushly romantic adaptation of Hemingway’s novel about an ill-fated WWI romance between an American soldier & British nurse. 1932. For its time, some remarkable cinematography; the story line however, was a bit….too much.
