Awake: 6:12am Temp 67 sleep 6+11 sunny overnight @ Nicktown, PA.
We walk to 8:00am Mass; join the Koffee Klub for (1) hr & then, exercise for (60) min before a happenstance visit with Father Job for (15) min. Next we walk over to the hardware store, buy a wire brush & water filter & then stop to pay cousin, Dave, & his wife, Marge, a (20) min visit on their front porch. Dave is a very active Koffee Klub member who is recovering from major surgery, triple abdominal aneurysm resection (removal of 3 aneurysms from the abdomen). Kathy had to help me with that descriptive medical update. We all miss his vast knowledge, humor & creative thinking addition to our discussions.
I spend some time changing the # 1 water filter on our pump house & the # 1 filter on our portable filter setup. After that, I drive to Barnesboro & fill up my diesel fuel container so I can top off the John Deere tractor for Ken when he retrieves it later.
Kathy busies herself in the galley: grating 2 very large zucchinis from Irwin P., freezing most of it, baking a cranberry zucchini cake, & making a pot of fresh tomato (we have lots of fresh tomatoes) zucchini beef soup. It’s wonderful to get all these fresh vegetables but Kathy has to keep “baking & making” to use them up & enjoy that delicious homegrown flavor.
Dinner: Fresh tomato zucchini beef soup with oyster crackers & the last apple dumpling from Melissa; excellent meal. We had the air conditioning running so our hot meal was apropos for the inside cool room.
Late movie: “Kings Row” with Ann Sheridan, Robert Cummings, Ronald Reagan, Berry Field, Charles Coburn, etc. Forerunner of Peyton Place still retains its sweep of life in pre-WW1 Midwestern town, with the fates of many townsfolk intertwined. It was Reagan’s 1st performance. 1942. Quite good; squeeze it toward the top of your list.
