Awake: 7:06am Temp 46 sleep 6+42 clouds, then sunny overnight @ Nicktown.

Casual morning; Kathy watches her usual political programs: Stephanopolis; Tim Russert, Meet the Press; etc; while I Skype Ray in Ocean Park, WA. & spend some time on the computer; when the politics get more exciting, I move closer to Kathy.

Early afternoon, Kathy begins cooking/baking for our evening distinguished guests. Hors’deuvers: cheesy olive snacks, BBQ turkey meat balls, garlic Parmesan crisps, pioneer bread pudding with lemon sauce & chocolate chips.

My distinguished brother Don & his eloquent wife Josie arrive a few minutes after
6:00 pm. Don gives us an update on the big dig to reveal the foundation walls of their home; “it’s a big project” he tells us. Along with the dirt talk, we discuss our children & grandchildren; their children & grandchildren; their summer plans; our summer plans, our house plans, etc.

Earlier this spring, Don & I discussed their tandem bike trip plans: leaving from across the Straits of Vancouver Island, (Hwy 101 & Hwy 1) thru Washington State, Oregon, California & terminating @ the border of Mexico. To make their visit more interesting tonight, I had saved a DVR documentary covering some of the initial building of the Pacific Coast Highway & the continuous upkeep of (Hwy 101 & Hwy 1) which they’ll be traveling on.

It was a good evening; the Hors’deuvers were tasty, the wine & beer flowed well & Don & Josie had a good sneak preview of some things to expect when taking their bike trip.

Late DVR movie: “Atlantic City” with Burt Lancaster, Susan Sarandon, Kate Reid, Michel Piccoli, Hollis McLaren, Robert Joy, etc. Rich character study of a city in transition, focusing on small-time losers who’ve stayed there too long & big time dreamers who are just arriving. Lancaster gives one of his finest performances as an aging two-bit hood who’s all style & no substance. 1980. Good story but don’t get any ideas; crime still doesn’t pay.

High temp=63 Lights out: 11:47pm
