Awake: 7:20am Temp 46 sleep 7+21 intermittent rain overnight @ Nicktown.
My sister Corinne calls from Lilly; she reminds us of our daughter Melissa’s birthday coming up; we tell her of our plans for Monday & ask if she would like to join us for the occasion. She will let us know later.
Meanwhile, K & I decide to have breakfast @ the church hall this morning. When we arrived @ 9:40, Nick the money collector, told me I was # 145. They were having a busy morning already & they stop serving @ noon. They expect to see a few more customers after the 10:30 Mass. The ladies do make a good breakfast for a reasonable price.
After breakfast, we zip down to the Giant Eagle grocery store in Barnesboro for special items necessary for the dinner Kathy is making for Melissa’s birthday.
Back in our coach, Gary C. calls from St Augustine. He wants a progress report of our time with the Foote’s. How could he know that we didn’t do much? Anyway, I come clean & tell him: “we actually went backwards.” Then I gave the details.
Next, my old young friend Mark Brum… calls from Medford, OR. Mark & his wife, Marcia, are RVers, usually in the spring & fall. We update each other on our travels & highlights for (54) min. They will spend summer back in Alaska & in the fall, tour the West Coast. Meanwhile, Kathy continues making the dinner for tomorrow & dinner for today.
Dinner: Crab & mushroom “concoction.” A delicious dish copied from a card in Kathy’s recipe box.
Corinne calls to confirm she will join us at the Footes tomorrow.
We finish watching: “Midnight Express” with Brad Davis, Irene Miracle, Bo Hopkins, Randy Quaid, John Hurt, etc. Riveting, harshly, violent story of young American Billy Hayes (Davis) who faces physical & emotional brutalization in Turkish prison after being caught drug-smuggling. Great moviemaking, though not as faithful to Hayes’ true story as filmmakers would have us believe. 1978. Prepare for some frightful scenes; definitely not for the faint of heart.
