Awake: 5:38am Temp 68 sleep 4+54 sunny overnight @ Nicktown, PA.
I attend 8:00am Mass this morning; Father Bijn from India officiating. Then join the Koffee Klub & announce the birth of our new grandson, Nathaniel Kael. The members were pleased to hear that mother & child & grandmother are doing well.
Back @ the bus, Gary & Rosemary call & we discuss the new grandson, the Saint Augustine picnic, the long line for meals, those thick noodles & then the heavy rain. They think their picnic did alright but won’t know for sure until all the numbers are turned in.
Later morning, Kathy calls: she is very tired; Matthew & Andrew were holding & pulling on her hair throughout the night; turning & bumping into her; lying close to & sometimes on top of her; waking & calling out words not always understood by grandma…all normal nighttime behavior for the boys, but not for Kathy.
The hospital where Melissa delivered customarily gives the mother & father a celebratory steak dinner before being discharged; Kevin & Melissa decided to enjoy this at noontime without the company of Matthew & Andrew. Kathy will baby-sit & I, to lend another hand, drive over to the Foote house & help with the baby sitting process until Kevin returns from his steak dinner.
(3) hrs later, Kevin returns & dismisses us for the rest of the day. As is customary with the new baby, Kevin will take Matthew & Andrew back to the hospital & they will bring Nathaniel home as a family.
Meanwhile, K & I have been invited to a family gathering in Ebensburg @ the restaurant “Off the Rack.” My sister, Mary Jo, & her daughter, Jenny, (both from California & arriving yesterday); my brother, Don, & his wife, Josie, & my sister, Corinne, & Kathy & I enjoy a delightful time; good food & great company. Kathy & I share a tuna steak dinner.
After the dinner, we all gather @ Don & Josie’s house for dessert; out comes a very berry pie with (1) candle & ice cream; then they sing the traditional “Happy Birthday” song for my birthday. Tomorrow is my official birthday but this was a nice gathering with our family; good conversation, food + the evening wind-up with player piano music & the singing sisters. Mary Jo & Jenny will be visiting relatives & friends for the next 10 days.
Lights out: 11:24pm
