Awake: 7:15am Temp 47 sleep 6+22 sunny overnight @ Punta Gorda, Florida.
After breakfast & en route to visit my 1st Cousin, Max, living in Port Charlotte, we drove by the Victorian mansions along Retta Esplanade, evidence of Punta Gorda’s former shipping heyday; they line the opposite side of the Peace River. We also took the time to restock our wine & liquor cabinet @ the ABC store along the way…. & made a quick stop @ a hobby store across the street.
My brother Don calls from PA as we are about to park @ the hobby store; he reports that Sue Kirsch, wife of the late Clyde Kirsch, passed away; age, late 80’s. He also mentioned that his computer disc died & cannot be resurrected; & I was planning on a Skype session next week.
Max just happens to be standing outside their garage as we pull into their driveway & his wife Diana, appears shortly thereafter. Since we learned that today is Diana’s special day, we wish her a “Happy Birthday” first thing.
Max is walking quite well after his double knee replacement of last October. Both Max & Diana give us a good tour of their winter home & then we gab for hrs in their living room before attending 4:00pm Mass @ the huge Saint Charles Borromeo Parish Community Church, a mere (2) miles away.
Back @ their home, both Max & Diana serve us “Maxi Burgers” (Max’s specialty) with onions, tomatoes, fried potatoes, & green bean casserole.
Then Diana entertains us with some delightful organ music from her 3-tier organ; she has been an organist for many years & continues to play to the delight of Max’s ears.
We return to our Motorcoach around 9-ish pm.
Late movie: “Without Love” with Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn, Lucille Ball, Keenan Wynn, Carl Esmond, etc. Tracy & Hepburn have never been livelier, but script from Philip Barry’s play lets them down in story of inventor & widow who marry for convenience & later fall in love. 1945. Not too shabby; never-the-less, entertaining.
Lights out: 12:27am
